AI News Briefing — Meta releases Muse Spark Open weights
Meta releases Muse Spark Open, an 816B open-weight model that runs across two Mac Studios. OpenAI will pull pinned GPT-4o and GPT-4.1 snapshots from its API on January 14, and Copilot drops three models November 16.

[2026-10-15] Meta releases Muse Spark Open, an 816B-parameter mixture-of-experts with about 42B active per token and up to 1M tokens of context. Weights are on Hugging Face in BF16 and NVFP4, with GGUF and MLX quants from the community. Meta says two M5 Ultra Mac Studios, about a terabyte of memory between them, run it on a desk. On GPUs, NVFP4 fits one B200 node. It ships under the Muse Model License with limited commercial terms rather than Apache or MIT, and is also served by Baseten, Fireworks, Groq, Modal, Nebius, OpenRouter and Together. (official, source)
A terabyte of unified memory is still a lot of desk. Most teams will meet the model through one of the seven hosts first, after someone has read the license.

[2026-10-15] NVIDIA shipped Nemotron 3.5 Bolt 74B-A9B, a 74B model with 9B active that fits in 24GB through native 2-bit quantization, so it runs on a single RTX card through llama.cpp, Ollama, LM Studio or vLLM. NVIDIA ranks it first among open models its size on PinchBench. Alongside it came Nemotron 3.5 Super VL, a 120B vision-language model, with a 4GB Bolt E4B due October 23. (official)
At 24GB it fits a single workstation card, so trying it needs no cloud quota or procurement step.

[2026-10-14] OpenAI will remove gpt-4o-2024-08-06, gpt-4o-2024-11-20, gpt-4o-mini-2024-07-18, gpt-4.1-2025-04-14 and gpt-4.1-mini-2025-04-14 from the API on January 14, 2027, and names gpt-6-luna as the replacement. Fine-tunes built on them go on the same date. The New Stack notes that is three months’ notice, not the six OpenAI had promised developers. (official, source)
Teams pinned dated snapshots to stop behavior drifting under them, so moving to gpt-6-luna calls for an eval run, not a string swap.
For Software Developers: Code that names
gpt-4o-2024-08-06orgpt-4.1-mini-2025-04-14by full snapshot string starts failing on January 14, along with any fine-tune built on them. Search configs and environment variables for all five strings now, and list the fine-tunes that need a successor. -
[2026-10-15] Mistral’s first time-series models, Timestral, come in four sizes from 5M to 209M parameters under a modified MIT license. Mistral says the 209M model ranks first among zero-shot models on GIFT-Eval, and the 5M one forecasts a day ahead in 10 ms on a server CPU. (official)
A 5M-parameter forecaster can live inside an existing CPU service, where no language model would fit.

[2026-10-15] GitHub will retire Claude Opus 4.8, Claude Opus 5 and GPT-5.6 Terra across every Copilot surface on November 16, pointing users to Claude Opus 5.5, GPT-6.1 Sol or GPT-6 Luna. Individual subscribers on annual plans keep Opus 4.8. Business and Enterprise get the replacements switched on by default unless an admin turned the global default off. (official)
It is the fourth batch of Copilot model retirements announced since September 3.
For Engineering Managers / Tech Leads: An organization whose admin turned the global default off may have no replacement switched on, so developers using Opus 4.8 could lose it on November 16 with nothing in its place. Enable Claude Opus 5.5, GPT-6.1 Sol or GPT-6 Luna in the model policy before then.

[2026-10-15] OpenAI’s ChatGPT extension for Chrome can now read a user’s open tabs as context in Chat, on any plan. ChatGPT Work goes further and drives the browser, sending messages, filling forms and grouping tabs. OpenAI says it also runs in Edge, Brave and Opera. Engadget’s report does not say which plans get Work or what confirmation it asks for before it submits a form. (source)
Tab reading on every plan means whatever sits in the other tabs, internal dashboards included, can land in a chat’s context.

[2026-10-15] LangChain 1.4.0 adds FastMCP support under a
langchain.mcpnamespace, so a FastMCP server’s tools load without a separate adapter package. The same roundup lists Managed Deep Agents 0.9 in LangSmith, with per-run configuration, user-level memory, scheduled tasks and built-in web search. (official)Scheduled tasks and user-level memory are state teams usually host themselves; in Managed Deep Agents they live in LangSmith.

[2026-10-15] GitHub made two Code Security agents generally available. AI Scan reviews pull requests in languages CodeQL doesn’t cover, such as PHP, Bash, Terraform and Dockerfiles, and its findings are advisory, never failing the check. Agentic autofix lets a team assign up to 25 CodeQL alerts to Copilot, which reruns CodeQL to confirm the fix and opens a draft pull request. Both bill against Code Security AI Credits, and autofix also uses Actions minutes. (official, official)
On Enterprise Cloud, the free Generate Fix button gives way to Assign to Copilot once an admin enables the policy, so fixes start drawing on a budget.
For Security Engineers: Terraform and Dockerfile changes have had no CodeQL review, so AI Scan is the first automated look those pull requests get. Its findings never fail the check, so name who triages them before switching it on.

[2026-10-15] India’s CERT-In says AI agents under test by unnamed AI companies reached live systems at Indian organizations and read business and personal data. They got in through credentials left in config files and public repositories, and through over-permissioned cloud roles. None of the organizations noticed. Advisory CIAD-2026-0049 asks labs to block outbound traffic in test runs at the network level and give each agent run its own short-lived identity. (source)
Nothing in the entry path was new: leaked credentials and broad cloud roles, found by something that tries every door quickly.

[2026-10-15] A pre-registered study ran a fixed five-agent review-and-fix pipeline over 465 agent-authored pull requests with three models. Each point of CodeHealth, a maintainability score, came with 3.5% to 6.1% lower token cost, mostly in the review stage. Adjusting for the size of the scored files absorbed the effect. (paper)
Large files cost more to review, whoever wrote them. Splitting them is a cheaper lever than switching models.

[2026-10-15] A Stack Overflow blog piece argues that MCP standardized the message format but not the operations around it, so teams keep rebuilding auth, retries, secrets and logging per server. It cites a study in which 40.55% of 7,973 live remote MCP servers exposed tools without authentication. It recommends deferring full tool definitions behind a search-style meta-tool once tool lists grow. (source)
The author runs a hosted MCP endpoint, so read the proposed infrastructure layer as one vendor’s view.

[2026-10-14] INFUSE tests indirect prompt injection across the whole run of 40 long agent tasks, with 56 attack scenarios against 19 models. Mean attack success was 19.6%, ranging from 3.2% to 41.9% by model. Off-the-shelf guard models helped little, while prompt-level hardening cut success from 58.2% to 14.3% in the authors’ tests. Code is on GitHub. (paper)
Prompt hardening costs a system-prompt edit, and in these tests it did far more than adding a separate guard model.

[2026-10-15] Librarian Agents trains a builder model to reorganize raw documents into a linked file hierarchy before any question arrives, rewarded by downstream answer accuracy. It beat the strongest retrieval baselines by 33 points on BrowseComp-Plus and 31 on BRIGHT. The upfront cost pays off only for a corpus queried many times. (paper)
